Soroptimist International is a global volunteer organization with over 75,000 members in 122 countries. The name Soroptimist is from the Greek words “soro” meaning sister, and “optima” meaning best – and that is what the organization strives to achieve: the best for women. Membership strives to improve the lives of women and girls through programs leading to social and economic empowerment.
Making A Difference
Soroptimist International of Anacortes (SIA) consists of women of all ages, cultures, and ethnic groups. The common thread that connects them is a desire to make a difference in the local community and the world. Membership works toward this goal every day through involvement in education, community service, the environment, health, human rights, scholarships, awards, and other activities.
SIA has been very successful in raising funds through its one fundraiser, a Thrift Shop. It is a gathering place that links the community and the club. Donations come from the community. Dedicated volunteers manage the shop and the proceeds are then given back to the community along with support for worthy global organizations.
